The finished figure was later presented in the Lucy Kaas pavilion during the prestigious Lucca Comics & Games event, where it served as a special highlight of the exhibition connected to the brand and the Stranger Things franchise.
Project Goal:
The main objective was to create a highly detailed and stylistically faithful painting that would combine:
- the minimalist aesthetic of Lucy Kaas Kokeshi figures,
- the characteristic, dark appearance of Vecna — the creature from the Upside Down,
- high exhibition quality suitable for a major pop culture event.
The challenge was to translate Vecna’s organic, intricate patterns onto the smooth form of the figure in a way that remained aesthetic, readable, and consistent with the brand’s DNA.
Execution – Technology and Craftsmanship:
The scope of work included:
- preparing the surface of the delivered figure,
- precisely applying base colors — in shades of red, pink, and beige,
-
hand-painting all graphics characteristic of Vecna, such as:
– lines imitating the structure of his “organic” skin,
– vein patterns known from the series,
– simplified, illustrative facial features, - refining gradients, shadows, and contours according to Lucy Kaas reference materials,
- coating the entire figure with a protective varnish.
All painting was done manually to preserve the unique linework and the illustrative character of the brand.
Composition:
- the recognizable Kokeshi form (large head + cylindrical body),
- the elegant simplicity of Lucy Kaas design,
- the visual identity of Vecna — dark, organic, inspired by the Upside Down.
